Greetings - I know that this is not directly tool related, but this is an appropriate forum, so I'll take a chance that others might be interested in the information too.
Our IZ is about to go into conversion mode, and we are have a lot of geo-referencing questions related to the new data set:
1) what IZ collections are out there on the internet that are on a map? Send references if you have them handy.
2) what geo-referencing tools are there - I know about Biogeomancer - does one need anything else?
3) what sort of funding sources are there out there for possible georeferencing assistance - I know about GBIF, are there others?

probably not telling you anything you didn't know but
just in case you hadn't come across much about these, thought worth mentioning them
1. http://www.ozcam.gov.au/ is an Australia system that maps faunal collection data from multiple collections including IZ data
2. regarding georeferencing, ORNIS MaNIS and HerpNET all GBIF related are doing work on georeferencing (I think all using Biogeomancer) but there may be contacts there that may be of use if you haven't already gone down this path. Refering to georeferencing resources
-For UK locations, I have used the Ordinance Survey gazetteer at http://wwwnt:8030/cgi-bin/gazetteer/
-The USGS Geographic Names Information System is useful for US localities whilst the Geonet Names Server provides data for non-US localities.
[I don't know if the Ordinance Survey data has been assimilated into GNS? ]
I am in the process of linking these sites to EMu through the 'Tools--> Resource' link to assist with georeferencing our Mineral and Rock Collections. I will let you know how I get on.
