Hi, We are interested in hearing from those users who have subclassed parts of the Sites Module, particularly in relation to the Locality and Mapping tabs, and as it applies to natural history collections. This is in relation to discussions we are currently having about structures that allow for the storage of data as originally received as well as it's storage in another form as a result of a translation or correction. For example, an arrangement which would allow a geocode to be received and stored in a particular field in various formats (e.g decimal degrees, degrees decimal minutes, degrees minutes seconds) and one that also allows these various formats to be converted to a standard format and stored in another field. How have other users dealt with such issues in EMu? |

Chris, I'm not sure what version of EMu you have, but the LatLon tab used by a number of the North American natural history clients has the ability to do some autoconversion and also to record multiple georeferencing events that apply to the same Sites record. These tabs have relatively minor subclassing differences. There is also a SIG working on building some proposed standards for the LatLon (and subsequently Mapping) tab, and if you want to email me directly I'd be happy to chat more (lawrence.gall at yale.edu). That SIG will be bringing the proposal into EmuUsers.Org once it's more fully baked. Best, Larry |
